Because Quality Control (QC) testing is a critical part of ABI’s production process, sterility testing, Mycoplasma testing, and a viable cell count are performed on every custom cell culture product. In addition, the following QC assays are available:
- Infectivity Assay
- Virus Particle Count
- Hemagglutination Assay
- SDS-PAGE
- Western blot
- ELISA
- HIV-1 p24 Antigen Capture Assay
- Growth Performance
- Thin Sectioning Electron Microscopy (EM)
- Immunofluorescence Assay (IFA)
- PCR
Production Times and Order Minimums
Because each custom product is unique, production times vary according to custom product specifications.
Production Time
Please allow a minimum of 6-8 weeks for us to create your custom cell culture.
Order Minimum
Custom cell culture products: 50 1.0 ml vials at 107cells/ml.
Custom infectious agent propagation: 10L of cell culture material
Ask ABI for more information on available cell lines, order minimums, pricing, and scheduling.
Concentration/Purification
All researchers have unique needs when it comes to the viral and bacterial preparations required for their research. Some research demands a high purity concentrated virus, while others demand a high titer. And while all concentrated viral and bacterial preparations undergo rigorous quality control procedures, the individual assays required to determine product specifications vary widely according to your specific research needs.

Quality Control (QC) testing is a critical part of ABI’s production process. Sterility and Mycoplasma testing are performed on every custom virus product. In addition, the following QC assays are available:
- Infectivity titer
- Protein Concentration
- Virus Particle Count by Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM)
Other assays may be available on request. QC assays may also be performed in-process to monitor the growth of custom viruses.
Production Times and Order Minimums
Because each custom product is unique, production times and minimum order requirements vary according to custom product specifications. Please find below, typical minimum order requirements and production time for custom concentration/purification orders:
Minimum Order Requirements
For custom concentration: Dependent on customer’s final product concentration requirement (100X–5000X).
For custom purification: 10 mg
Production Time
Please allow a minimum of 8-12 weeks for us to create your custom order.
Ask ABI for information on available cell lines, unit sizes, shipping methods and considerations, pricing, and scheduling.
Inactivation
Because inactivated viral and bacterial preparations are essential for some investigations, ABI offers custom inactivation for any infectious agent in our inventory. Additionally, inactivations can be performed on samples submitted to ABI, or on custom viral or bacterial preparations.

Beta-Propiolactone (ß-PL): A chemical inactivation method that modifies the nucleic acid and leaves intact viral particles. ß-PL Inactivation causes minimal or no modification of viral proteins. Suitable for ELISA, Western blot, and other protein-based assays.
Detergent: A chemical inactivation method that leaves no viral particles intact. The detergent dissociates most viral protein. Suitable for ELISA, Western blot, and other protein-based assays.
Heat: A physical inactivation method that leaves intact virus, bacteria, or chlamydia elementary bodies. The heat inactivates the infectious agents, but leaves the nucleic acid unmodified. Suitable for nucleic acid-based assays, such as standard and real-time PCR.
Ultraviolet (UV): A physical and chemical inactivation method that leaves intact viral particles. UV light cross-links the product’s nucleic acid with minimal or no modification of the viral proteins. Suitable for ELISA, Western blot, and other protein-based assays.
As with all of our other preparations, Quality Control (QC) testing is a critical part of ABI’s production process. Validation of inactivation, Sterility, and Mycoplasma testing are performed on every custom inactivation product. In addition, the following QC assays are available:
- ELISA
- Protein Concentration
- SDS-PAGE
- Virus Particle Count by Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM)
- Western blot
- PCR
Other assays may be available on request.
Ask ABI for information on recommended inactivation methods and QC assays, order minimums, pricing, and scheduling.
Production Times and Order Minimums
Because each custom product is unique, production times and minimum quantities for product inactivation may vary according to custom specifications. The below minimums are typical for custom inactivation orders. Ask ABI for specifics regarding your project.
Production Time
Please allow a minimum of 4-6 weeks for each custom inactivation.
Order Minimum
For custom inactivation of standard products: 5 mg
For custom inactivation of custom concentrated/purified products: 10 mg
