ABI Releases 2009 Influenza A (H1N1) Purified Virus Products to Assist Investigators in Studying New Pandemic Influenza Strains
ABI’s two new 2009 Influenza A purified virus products are suitable for a variety of assays and in characterization to meet investigators’ demand for purified virus for ongoing research on 2009 Influenza A (H1N1) original isolates.
Columbia, Maryland - December 29, 2009 - Advanced Biotechnologies Inc (ABI) has released Human Influenza A/California/4/2009, H1N1 (Swine-Origin) and Human Influenza A/Mexico/4108/2009, H1N1 (Swine-Origin) Purified Virus products for use in assays and in characterization of 2009 Influenza A (H1N1) lineages. These products are produced to meet the needs of investigators studying 2009 Influenza A (H1N1) original isolates of novel swine-origin.
ABI’s 2009 Influenza A (H1N1) purified virus products are suitable for cell culture-based infectivity assays, nucleic acid-based assays, antigen-antibody assays, antiviral resistance testing, and comparative antigenic or genomic characterization of Seasonal Influenza A (H1N1) and other Influenza A (H1N1) lineages with 2009 Influenza A (H1N1).
According to the World Health Organization (WHO) Pandemic H1N1 2009 update 80, 2009 Influenza A (H1N1) cases have been reported in over 208 countries and have resulted in more than 11,000 deaths. The disease is currently prevalent in the northern hemisphere, with the latest increases in activity occurring in parts of Europe and Asia. Unlike with seasonal influenza, which mostly causes fatalities in the elderly, 2009 Influenza A (H1N1) mostly affects people from ages 10-45, according to information on the WHO’s website on Pandemic H1N1 2009 at www.who.int.
ABI’s 2009 Influenza A (H1N1) purified virus products were purified from the infected allantoic fluid of chicken eggs. The finished products tested negative for bacteria, yeast, fungi, and Mycoplasma by ABI’s assay methods. Additionally, Hemagglutination Assays (HA), Infectivity Titers (TCID50), and BCA Protein Assays were performed. Virus particle counts were performed by Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM).
