Herpes Simplex Virus-1 (human herpesvirus-1, HHV-1) is an alpha-herpesvirus. Found in 58% of 14-49 year olds in the US. Most commonly causes cold sores (herpes simplex labialis, HSL), but can also cause genital herpes.1
